Im not trying to be argumentative... just learning. Because I had never even though to wonder. But, I also don't use it in retracted mode, unless I have to put something in an overhead shelf or something.

I stepped on my slide (flush floor) when it was in once and heard the plywood crack a bit. Since then I never step on it or use it when it's in. Plus the slide is also supported by the outside wall when it's out!
Whether anyone wants to hear it or not, they were not designed to be used when in!
