My 14 is a sad sack computer controlled never gonna make rated HP contraption. Press the pedal and it works like an HVAC chiller. It will load up and start to make power but do it on its own preset parameters. Parameters which have NOTHING to do with real world driving. A good example is my truck does quite well hauling the 14.5K loaded toyhauler but with a 4-5K cargo trailer in Montana hills it IS A PATHETIC POS THAT CAN NOT FIND THE RIGHT GEAR OR PRODUCE THE EXPECTED POWER to drive normally. Choice is a slug or drive it floored and back off and then back on.
Bottom line is the advertised HP and TQ is something that it could potentially make under some rare circumstances. Very rare. Maybe, but Cummins didn't raise the HP rating still 385 HP they raised the Torque rating from 850 to 900.
Now I know all about the HP and torque formulas, but my old 5.9 Cummins is too stupid to know that, so it just does a great job of moving 20,000# of TV and 5er at speed of traffic with less than 280 hp, but a bunch of torque.
What is amazing to me is that these New Diesels with all this HP and Torque, still can get 20 mpg empty on the open road! Then most can get north of 10 mpg pulling decent loads, Cummins12V98 can almost get that on flat land with about 30,000# GCVW!
