If you have read a few threads about how people feel and treat vehicle salespeople, why would anyone with a lick of sense want to be one in the first place. Long hours, low pay, dealing with people who think they are either liars or cheats and when they give great service the odds are the buyer is going to sell them out to an online dealers price that's $25.00 less. Sounds so enticing I might forgo becoming a leper to join their legions. Sometimes the collective effort leads to unintended results.
I sold trucks for a few years at an independent dealer here in Phoenix several years ago; if you'll forgive my lack of modesty I was "that guy" that knew all the specs, etc, and it really didn't make much difference at all. In fact I was told to "dumb it down" a bit and not "talk tech" but focus on making the sale.
You guys always forget we're very much in the minority; most buyers could care less and just want cool wheels, etc.
Without boring you with the details, the whole experience was so negative I went back and finished my degree, got out, and now work in healthcare.
The whole process is filled with lies & half- truths, by salesmen AND buyers. I am so happy to have moved beyond it.
