The flip side and IMHO more important is the availability of all this info on the net TO criminals and how easy it is for them obtain info and to scope out a potential victim and strike with total success.
I've posted it before but when social media became the craze friends of mine in the horse world where posting pictures and videos of their farms, horses and horses lineage, shows etc........
Horse theft became rampant.
All the thieves had to do was gather all their info from the facebook page, address, lay of the farm, where the barn is located and where all the gates where AND more importantly from their posts WHEN they would be leaving to go out of town for a horse show. Poof stolen horses.
That goes for RV forums and whatever. People like to post pictures of their rigs, their profile shows real names and addresses. Even if just the city is listed all the crook has to do is look up the name. THEN they post when they are going to hit the road for a vacation or long term snowbirding. What more could a criminal want or need to have easy pickings. People put WAY to much personal info on blogs, facebook and the like.
IMHO being anonymous on line when using a public forum, website or anything internet, is NOT having a false sense of security. IMHO it's called being smart. :W
