Arizona diesel emission testing, Edge Insight CTS ok?

Anyone have an Edge Insight or similar OBDII reader installed on their diesel truck in Arizona? Arizona doesn't allow programmers but are the testing centers smart enough to know the Edge insight isn't a programmer? I could unplug the cable from the port but the cable would still be hanging there and at a minimum the dash mounting pod will still be there. Will they care and fail saying I have a programmer unless I completely remove the cable and dash pod?

  • I have had the Edge CTS in my last 2500 and my current 3500 and never had an issue with emissions. I just unplug it before I get there, as they have to used the OBD port to do the test.
  • I've had a programmer and now a chip. I doubt it will fail if you have an economy setting but all they can do is give you a fail sheet with an explanation and you get retested later at no charge. I haven't seen any of those guys who were very bright! Not that I'm trying to pollute cuz I keep mine running very clean. Craig
  • I dont have an egde, but do hace a scan gauge and they never said anything about it. Hooks up to the OBD port. Their concern is the enviro garbage, and the soot test. I run a hyperteck economiser tune and last test was only about 5% which the guy said is not bad for a 11 year old truck! I dont remove the tune either. ALso when I had 351 gasser with hypertech chip left it on and had no issues. But since over in east LA your requirements are different from the ones here in baja az!
  • I don't think they will even look at your obd port. AZ is an opacity test only for your truck, I believe. Have never seen them plug in for codes on diesels. They will also check for required equipment, CAT, EGR, DPF, etc.
  • Doesn't the test center have to plug into that OBD port? Pretty sure they do to run the test...
