Asking Dealer to drive half way.

We found a 2011 Lance 825 TC, but it is 6 hours away.My question is have any of you every asked a dealer to meet you half way to buy a camper? And what would be a fair per mile charge to pay. Thank You.

  • The reason I ask is a friend bought a new camper and the dealer drove half way over 5 hours to delivery it. And he didn't even charge for delivery. So it does happen. It was a R Pod.
  • If you don't want to make the trip to pick up the camper, why do you think you'd want to make a trip with a camper? I can't think of any good reason to meet halfway. If there's an issue, they won't have anything around to fix it. What if you need it shimmed for clearance?
  • I drove 7 hours to Zeeland Michigan for my pop up TC, so driving 6 hours I guess will not be as bad.
  • Dear God, why?

This is one of those things in life that sounded good to you inside your head, and probably made sense, up until the thought came outside your head.

LOL... No, can't imagine it, can't think of a compelling reason why a dealer would, and wonder what the big deal is for traveling 6hours....that's what most RV'ers do anyhow...travel. Now you have an excuse for a road trip. Like anyone needs one.
  • I feel your pain ..... same here in Illinois.
Seems you have to go to the east or west coast to find a concentration of TC dealers. The dealer I went to in Minnesota didn't even sell truck campers normally. He had just taken it on trade.
  • The money transfer would be hard to do. I guess the best way to buy the camper would be to drive up there and then get a hotel for the night and then drive back the next day.Finding Truck campers in Wisconsin is very hard to do.:(
  • I drove 8 hours to go get the TC I recently purchased......There were none to be found locally.

I took me several hours at the dealership to "kick the tires" on it sufficiently to make sure I wasn't buying a lemon.....and there were a couple of things I made them fix before I bought it.
There were also some problems getting the electrical hookup to the truck working.
There is also the matter of the money transfer. I bought it outright, and getting the money transfer done to the satisfaction of both parties would have been impossible without being in their office. It would have been easier to finance it and then pay it off.

I wouldn't have wanted to attempt all that at a parking lot rendezvous.
  • I think you are going to have a hard time to find a dealer that will load up a truck camper, drive it 3 hrs, have you look at it, maybe buy it and then transfer it to your truck in some strange location....just sayin'
