I'm thinking the O.P. got that one right- tire payload is given as so many pounds at a specific PSI. One rarely sees mfr tire specs on a rig that exactly "match" a given tire's full capacity. My guess is that Ford spec'd a lower PSI for the OEM tires at least partly for comfort-of-ride purposes. This likely because most pickups spend 90% of their time as passenger vehicles; and if tires that size are inflated-to-the-max the truck would ride like a buckboard when not under a "work" load.
