Man I hate playing with electricity!!!! :) Silly question (maybe) How do I short them out, and if I do this, it won't cause more damage will it?
They are on spade tips. Pull them off one pair at a time, make sure you hold the disk they are plugged into under the foam in place with your finger as you pull on the spade tips, or you will pull it out. Maybe use needle nose to pull them off. Once you have a pair out simply touch them together and see if it starts. If not put them back and try the other pair. It is not high voltage.
Look at this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYzqP2BFrMkHe does not show you shorting them out, but I learned this from an RV repair course I took. It does show you how to replace the sensors
When one of mine went this winter, I temporarily shorted out the defective one which allowed the water heater to fire. I had to simply time it or it would have kept heating forever, but it did get me a shower until I could get to a camping world to buy the replacement kit. The disk connected to red pair is the most likely to be the cause of your problem.
