Aux. Fuel Tank

I installed a 40 gallon tank from the Farm Store and a transfer pump and handle from Craigslist, for a total investment of less than $300.

I simply wouldn't be without it. Now I can stop at rest areas of my choice rather than noisy stinky fuel stations. I can fill up at the end of the day when I am unhooked from the toyhauler and not have to worry about whether I can fit into the station with my trailer in tow. The convenience is wonderful.

I always scan thru the aux tank questions just to get a kick out of the urban legend and totally wrong information on gas aux tanks.

They just have to be plumbed correct and they also can be plumbed into the gas filler neck to replenish the gas in the vehicle tank.

no gravity transfer. Install a fuel pump to pump it out of the dip tube in the aux and into the filler tube of the vehicle tank. Also install a fuel shut off between the fuel pump and the filler neck to prevent siphoning.

One switch turns on the fuel pump and opens the shut off valve. while you are at it install a fuel gauge for the aux.

How bout option #3? Leave wife at last Campsite, then only stop for fuel! ;)

95 gallon RDS in bed tank with gravity flow, works like a champ. Best bang for the buck.

Yes. Might even be enough to drive from NC to Idaho. :B

48 gallons stock is awesome. I've done some longer trips through many desolate areas out west and that capacity would be fantastic. Now 138 gallons and I might balk at filling up from empty. :E

But thinking about a week in the woods hunting with no fuel stations anywhere...would be sweet.

My last two Super Duties. I had RDS 90 gallon tanks installed. Got the tank from Northern Tool and my Ford dealer installed them.

I just picked up a new F450. It has a 48 gallon OEM tank. My 90 gallon RDS is scheduled to arrive in about a week. That'll give me about 138 gallons. :)

By the way. Mine is gravity fed with a ball valve. I can leave it wide open or shut it off and use only the stock tank. Never had a problem and would definitely recommend them.

I installed the RDS 63 gal tank with gravity feed. I can carry approx 97 gal and can travel nearly 1000 miles towing before I need fuel. You will be able to stop at the cheapest stations for fuel if you use an app like Gas Buddy.
