Aux Fuel tank for Ford F250

Here is a 37 gallon fuel tank I installed and it is less then $400 for the tank.

The fuel tank comes with a manual fuel gauge . No body tells you this. Only reason I know is I own a boat with a built in fuel tank. But a universal fuel tank sending unit from a boat fits right in the 37 gallon fuel tank where the manual gauge is. I mounted a gauge under the dash. And that way I know how must fuel is in the tank.

I looked at the TransferFlow when I bought my truck: 2001 Dodge dually. I just didn't want to spend that much for what I considered a convenience.

However, now that I have had an auxiliary tank and used it for a couple years, it is much more than a convenience to me. I still am too cheap to spring for a TransferFlow though. :) The main thing I love about it is the ability to only fill up once a day. Which for us is usually in the evening after we've unhooked. That way we don't have to worry about getting into and out of a station. It really isn't a big deal on the interstates with the big truck stops, but when you get off the beaten track a bit, sometimes that 40' toyhauler can hinder easy access to fuel. :)

My wife bought a white 35 gallon tank from Tractor Supply, and a new unopened pump/filler hose w/nozzle off Craigslist for me for Christmas a couple years ago.

I installed it myself which consisted of putting it in the bed and drilling some mounting holes. I have it set up like SilverCorvette and just have clamps to attach to the battery when the main tank gets low. Total invested is about $500.

I love it and would do it again in a heartbeat.

(I realize you are interested in Ford diesel...
but will share my experience with Gas Transfer Flow).

I have a 35 gal. Transfer Flow mid-ship replacement tank on
my 2003 2500HD. Truthfully, I was never aware of any legality
issues with "gas" tanks. I had it installed locally just about 10 years
ago...they never mentioned it. I have not had one single
issue with it... or with any GM warranty work.

I have no regrets. I do recall it was "pricey" at the time...
but, like you, we desert dwellers can often find it long distances between
stations. I live in Chandler. Have since trained myself to look for a station
when gauge reads 1/4.... the 8.1 L never met a gas station it did not love.
My un-hitched mileage is not impressive...my towing MPG even
less so.... both reasons for the tank purchase.

I think you are just getting "opinions" from a lot of folks.

Transfer flow would not be any more legal than all the thousands of tanks made by RDS in Perry FL or the other major manufacturers.

By the way I have not seen any posting of factual information that makes gravity feeding of diesel not an approved method.

you have to do what you are comfortable with.

I am on my second in bed aux tank in an F 250. Both of them were made to my dimensions by RDS.

I might be worried about the weight in a 250, but this is my simple solution that cost me 1/4 to 1/5 of what the fancy auto feed systems cost

I installed this 95 gallon tank in my Dodge dually 350 last summer in less than an hour



I got it on sale an am guessing that if I remember correctly it was under $800 maybe even as low as $700 including the pump. My memory could be wrong but I am pretty sure it was not as much as the advertised price

When I am low I pop open the hood and clamp the pumps electric wire using the same type clamp used in jumper cables.

The pump is rated at 15 gallons per minute so when I am low I pump about 90 seconds worth of fuel. It isn't fancy with a digital read out but by timing the pump to 60, 90 or 120 seconds I have a pretty close idea how much fuel was pumped then subtract it from 95 so I know how much is remaining in the tank

I am 30 miles from the store so I drove over and picked it up and saved on shipping, I got lucky at the time they were running an in store special sale

If you carry a extra one gallon can and have a funnel it is much easier to pour the fuel in the smaller can and not have to hold 5 gallons up and also try to not spill.

Yes it is fine. I think that is a good idea. I think I will get a 5gallon tank and keep it in the tool box in the bed of the truck.

Some very valid points. 5 gallons at 10 mpg will typically get me to a station.
