It depends on the person with the truck really. I would never do without my 35 gallon auxiliary tank. It's a diesel, and the stock tank is 35 gallons, so I have about 70 gallons to travel on when the tanks are full.
I love the freedom to stop when I want to stop and not when the truck forces me to stop. I don't have to spend all my rest breaks at noisy, stinky truck stops/gas stations. I fill up once a day, or less if I don't travel many miles, and I usually fill up after the trailer is dropped off at the stopping point for the night. IMO there are many pluses and no cons, for me anyway.
I feel exactly the same way. Except my F250 is 6.2 gasser, so I obviously have to hit the gas pump more often. I have short box and never worry about bed space. Most time it is empty when towing the fifth wheel.
