Avoiding winterizing

Camco and others make a fresh water to air valve adapter. Any compressor is sufficient to blow out lines, even the cheap battery operated ones. Keep the PSI bellow 50 so you do not damage a line or fitting when blowing out the system. I used a larger compressor at home with a regulator to avoid damage.

I just read on the TC Mag interview with Lance that you can use rock salt and not worry about winter camping. Anyone here try that?

Someway to use air at the gas station?

Is there some special gadget to use air to blow out the lines?

I have gotten by with an electric heater when temps are not much below freezing. Be sure to check frequently. Electric heaters can burn out or trip a circuit breaker. For any prolonged use or real cold, the electric costs can become significant and of course the risk and consequences of a failure increase.

The one year I didn't winterize I used a portable electric heater and plugged it into a Thermocube.



Turns power on at 35* and off at 45*. Most portable heaters have around 55* as the minimum setting on the thermostat so this saves electricity. Also useful if you have a well pit or something similar. Better than leaving the heat source on 24/7.

Just leave cabinet doors open to protect plumbing. If you have a basement, you may need a separate heater there.

We added a 2-way valve in front of the water pump on our Class C - the switched pump intake point was a tube that went into a gallon of antifreeze. We could winterize in about 15 minutes.

During our annual winter trip to Florida, we'd use a jug of water for teeth-brushing and cooking; and would flush the toilet with a splash of antifreeze. This would keep the RV winterized, until we got into an area far enough south to not have nighttime freezing temps.

I now use the jug-of-water system ALL the time for our stripped-down TC.

I drain, winterize and wait. when I use it in winter I am heading south, so around South Carolina I will add water and bring it back to life than winterize as I had north again. it only takes a couple minutes, a water tank socket and about 1 gallon anti freeze.

the trick is to Run some fresh water through the hot water heater BEFORE you put the plug back in. Avoid having any RV antifreeze in your hot water heater when you turn it on. it makes for stinky hot water.

Ratchet strap a snowblower on the front of your camper rig.
Drive south until someone at a gas station points at your snowblower and asks: "What's that?":h
You have now avoided winterizing.

I just leave it winterized and use a jug. I may de winterize if it was a longer trip but a jug is fine for a few days
