I had an issue a few years ago where the shaft of the motor was spinning inside the metal cap on the end of the awning. On mine there were two flat sides on the shaft and two corresponding flat spots on the cap. The problem is that there was looseness between the two. Every time you engaged the motor it took another bite out of the cap until it rounded out the hole. Now here is the fun part, you can't buy the $2 cap. They only sell it with a new motor. The cheap and simple fix is to drill a hole through the cap and the shaft and insert a spring pin through the hole.
