My awning is electric and extends straight out. I attach a rope to the extender arms and stake them to the ground.
That keep it from being blown back over the roof by an unexpected gust, it does not keep it from shaking violently and flapping in a strong wind.
In any significant wind we roll it in. I do not believe a TT awning is structurally sound enough withstand repeated stress and stain on its component parts.
Others may have more experience than I since I choose not to chance leaving it out when it is windy.
