Axle Noise

Hi. I am hearing an odd chain dragging like sound when I tow. Nothing is loose that I can find, and I don't feel any drag when going down the road. My wife has listened as we move, and thinks it sounds like rocks in the wheels/tires. Any thoughts?

You need to pull the drums off for an inspection. Sounds like it might be a broken magnet or magnet arm inside the drum. Most of these repairs are pretty easy and straightforward.

    Do it NOW!
  • The last time I looked at something like that I found brake parts laying inside the drum.
It could also be the actual little "hub cap" that covers the the end of the hub and the bearings, may have come loose and is just rolling around inside the decorative cap for the wheel.
    Check it before towing again.
  • Jack it up and spin the wheel, see what falls out. Please post back what you find...it helps others. I worked on airplanes for 27 plus years...I know that anything can happen.
  • Thanks all. I did jack it up an gave the hub a spin. Nothing fell out, but there are definitely things rolling around loose. I actually may have posted twice, as my computer did shut down my internet while posting the original, I could not find it in the forum. Sorry for any confusion.
  • You need to jack the side or axle and spin the tire to me it sounds like a shoe has delamed from the backing plate
  • yes please pull that drum off and tell us what you find. a picture or two would be great

lots of us have had a similar issue, your findings would be great to see
