OP, I went through the same dilemma as you. I really don't think you can go wrong with either truck.
When I was looking at diesels, 3 things jumped out at me;
#1 reliability of the Cummins. Great engines, hard pressed to find any real problems with a Cummins
#2 fuel pump. The newer style Bosch fuel pump in the GM and Ford can have serious problems with lower quality fuel found in the states.. The Cummins users an older pump that is more reliable.
#3 ability to work on the engine. Like I said, its rare to have to work on a Cummins... but you have to remove the cab on the Ford to work on their diesel. That takes an already expensive repair and makes it more expensive.
Bottom line, put your butt in the seat and see which one you like the most. The Ford and GM will be faster, because of the design of the V8 engine. The Cummins has plenty of torque and will likely downshift less. Any of the big three trucks are great. One other thing to consider is that the Ram 2500 has coil suspension, so it will likely ride more comfortably than GM or Ford. You can also get the optional factory air suspension with the Ram as well.
Happy hunting, you can't go wrong!
