Bad experience at dealer.

My wife and I went to place a down payment on a TT today.. The price on the trailer was $9999, we wanted to add, WD hitch and brake controller, rv cover, and full screen room for the awning. Want to take a guess how much the total price quoted was after transport, dealer fees, etc... $15,200!!!!!

$2600 of it was dealer prep and transport and there was another $300 doc fee on top of that !!!

A lot of back and forth with what I thought was not a great manager and we but it down to $13500 OTD, still a good $1500-$2000 higher then we planed for..so we walked.. I just felt like they were taking advantage of me, they keep saying how they are not making any money on this deal, and that the $9999 was a loss leader and msrp was really $15,695. They even showed me the invoice, but I know that in the car biz (which I was in for 15 years) that at I voice there was still a good deal of money to make on the car (holdback, advertising, dealer cash etc).. BTW invoice was $11,000 something. I don't know but I just felt I was being lied to..

Do you think the fees were excessive ?? I have never purchased an rv before was I wrong about the invoice ??

Thanks

If any portion of that last amount was sales tax/license fees etc., it might not be so far off base...

This because at least according to this link, a dealer is obliged to collect a 7% sales tax on total trailer cost at time of sale. Could be pushing a thousand bucks right there, especially if other related State-due fees are also added in.
  • So, it sounds like the salesman admitted that they intentionally priced the trailer at a loss and expected to make up the difference in fees???
  • I agree with obgraham........every dealer I've dealt with has claimed they weren't making money. Ironically, my son is a salesman/finance man for a car dealership --- he makes more money than hubby and I put together WHEN WE WERE WORKING!!!!!
  • Any deal concluded without walking away at least once is not the best deal possible.

Every vehicle I've ever bought, someone at the dealer claimed they weren't making any money.
  • Yes EXCESSIVE !!! Glad you walked. Start over someplace else. Randu
