balky 7 pin

I'm having a problem with the elctrical connector from TV to trailer. First, it is very hard to push in all the way. I have had to resort to a block of wood and a hammer. Then, once it is in all the way, some connections may not work. It might be the brake controller, or the taillights, or one brake light.

I tried contact cleaner, which didn't help. I'm afraid to try the WD-40 solution-to-everything, because I don't think WD-40 is a good conductor. Any suggestions?

  • Mine was very difficult to push all the way in also. Had two bent pins which i straitened, helped a little. Silicon spray on the outside plastic of trailer plug (not on the pins) seemed to solve it.
  • I vote for a bent pin too. Or, perhaps something caught in one on the female plug causing it to be impossible to push in.
  • Nothing wrong with a squirt of WD 40 to help clean out the gunk. But are you sure that one or more of the contact pins inside are not bent or damaged...?
Definitely should not have to hammer them in..
