These guys don't steal them to use them. They steal them to sell for the lead. Druggies are stealing lead and copper as fast as you can replace it. OP was probably lucky they did not cut the power cord and take it too.
Yeah, I didn't think of that. My two 30 gal. propane tanks walked away but are chained now. Batteries live in my basement on a minder when trailer is parked.
