I've had the same issue. I just let the water get in. Once year I take them out and clean connections, etc. and drain it then.
I'd rather not have holes in the bottom that might let corrosive liquid randomly come out and fly back against something on the TT.
During winter storage, I put a board over the tops of them so rain doesn't get in.
