Just got my new battery boxes for the 6V batteries I bought. Imagine my surprise when I simply lifted the 12V, box and all off the angle iron frame. Isn't it supposed to be ....um... attached to prevent your battery from hopping off the tongue frame when you are motoring down the road??? So, I'm looking at my new boxes and the straps that came with them. I figure I can just strap the battery box to the angle iron using the straps but I don't like the chinsey buckle arrangement that I found to be a pain in the butt with the 12V. Wondering if I can just use a continuous loop cam strap around the frame and the batteries to cinch down the entire case to the frame without drilling holes in the frame to permanently mount the battery boxes? Or is there an even better way?Thanks,

On some trailers I have run self tapping screws through the bottom and into the steel. On other trailers I've done nothing. I haven't lost a battery either way.The strap is meant to hold the battery and box in place.

As a classy upgrade there are aluminum boxes designed specifically for batteries that bolt to the A frame and are lockable.

I thought the strap was supposed to hold the lid on ;-)

You can use any kind of strap. The boxes are not going to jump off the frame anyway because they are so heavy and the front of the trailer does not bounce that much. The main thing the straps do is hold on the cover. No need to fasten the boxes to the frame any other way.That is the way my trailer was set up until a couple of weeks ago. As don0128 mentioned in his post above, here is what I am using now. :) Here it is ready to mount on to my trailer after I hook the two batteries together. Torklift battery box.Barney

Depending where you live and if you have to store your trailer away from the house it may be a good idea to make your batteries more difficult to steal. Battery and Propane thief are becoming more popular around this neck of the woods where we live.

Keeping things locked down and out of sight is best approach..

With just a couple of tools it only takes seconds to rip off your batteries and propane tanks...

I use strap off a boat trailer winch, wrapped around the battery box/frame. Installed stainless snaps for ease of use. Lasts much longer than OE straps and no buckles to fight.

I bought a locking strap to hold my 12 volters down. they also had 6 volt ones.

I ran a metal strap all the way around my batteries held together with a padlock to slow down thieves.

Attach the box to the frame. A neat way to strap the batteries in is with a couple of seatbelts from an old vehicle.Got mine from a junk yard off a 90 Mustang.

I'm still spending money on "necessities", Donn. When I get to the point where I'm ready for classy upgrades, I'll know it's time to upgrade to a bigger TT ;-)
