May want to revisit the manual. It is typically suggested you idle a diesel for 3 to 5 minutes after a highway run, to allow the oil to remove the heat from the turbo and other engine components. To idle for 10 to 15 minutes , or even 30 minutes should be no issue. Hard for me to imagine any harm to the engine, and "long periods" is very relative.
It should be pointed out, that no mater how many batteries and regardless of type, when you drain them, they must be recharged. You can upgrade the batteries, but if your method of charging is not upgraded it means while taking longer to discharge your batteries, it will take longer to recharge them.
