I wonder if the poster prior to this one simply had a low quality cut off switch which resulted in his problems. I would expect that the switches would be designed so that the top part with the switch could withstand the elements if the connectors on the bottom were protected under the battery box lid.
The one in the picture is the one that I used listen to the other guy and get the marine grade one.
