the BD overdrive lockout is an end run around this short coming, but then allow you to turn it off when not pulling and go back to regular O/D, at least that is my understanding of how it works.

that is what I used to do in my old chevy 2500 when pulling, just shift to 3rd gear and the trans never when into 4th gear or overdrive.

my 2005 model dodge pulls my weight trailer fine, no problems.

The ALLYS are the same way in our International school buses with the 5 speeds. No 4th position. Oh well. My "04.5 selector is all 4 positions.

Funny they would remove that feature when even my 93 Dodge/Cummins had it.

I don't have any problems. I'm well over 10,000. There are times I wish I could lock it out but not many. It shifts pretty good. I can lock it out with my Bully Dog but I loose the TH option.
