Beadlock questions

I've been very happy with the way my 4500 dually handles the AF1150.
It is MUCH more stable, with no sway at all. A huge improvement over my old 3500.

It does have the 19.5 tires which are also great, but from what I've read, can't be aired down because they run the risk of losing bead lock and popping off.

I've been trying to learn about beadlocks online. Has anyone here ever used them on 19.5s?

I'd like to take the rig down to the beach at Corpus Christi, and have been told by rangers there that it is absolutely mandatory to air down. They recommend about 20 psi.
Only way to do that with my tires is a bead lock.
Any experience/advice would be appreciated.

  • Beadlocks are not street legal and your 19.5" tires won't flex all that much even when aired way down as the sidewalls are very stiff by design.

What you should look into is getting a spare set of wheels/tires to use for the beach.
  • Check the tire manufacturer site.
The commercial 19.5 are not design to make balloons in the sand.
Even if you make them staying at low pressure, you very likely will damage tire sides with too much flex.
  • IIRC bead locks are not DOT approved therefore not legal on public roads.
  • I don't think you are going to get the effect you want when the 19.5s are aired down. They might will be aired down, but I don't think they will displace that much more.

I'd call the park and ask them about your 19.5s.
