That's the jist of it.
A 50amp provides 2 - 50 amp 120v circuits coming into the trailer (and the potential to run 240v appliances). A 30 amp provides a single 30amp 120v circuit. Mostly it's used when RV's get large enough that they need a 2nd Air/Con unit but also handy if you want to run the Air/Con, electric water heater and microwave (or other heavy load) at the same time.
This does of course assume the campground has a 50amp outlet available. Many older and/or public campgrounds only have 30amp outlets. You can still function but you need an adapter and you can't run as much stuff or you will blow the circuit breaker on the pedestal.
