- NanciLExplorer IIBig Difference and much better
It not only gives you 240 volts, but allows you to run much more stuff all at the same time.
I just added a 50 amp breaker panel to my trailer along with a new cord which gives me 80 amps and I now have a 240 volt drier along with a washing machine, and as soon as we get back to it I am going to add a second A/C unit
Jack L - valhalla360NavigatorThat's the jist of it.
A 50amp provides 2 - 50 amp 120v circuits coming into the trailer (and the potential to run 240v appliances). A 30 amp provides a single 30amp 120v circuit. Mostly it's used when RV's get large enough that they need a 2nd Air/Con unit but also handy if you want to run the Air/Con, electric water heater and microwave (or other heavy load) at the same time.
This does of course assume the campground has a 50amp outlet available. Many older and/or public campgrounds only have 30amp outlets. You can still function but you need an adapter and you can't run as much stuff or you will blow the circuit breaker on the pedestal. - Colo_NativeExplorerRun more stuff, but I had 30 on my old MH and it had 2 ac's but it did have a power management system
- BobboExplorer IIBeing able to run 2 air conditioners at the same time is the major benefit.
- cyntdon2010ExplorerOne issue is some state campgrounds don't have 50 amps
- korbeExplorerI heard it was the difference of having one, or two air conditioners.
