Bent Axle
Bent my axle on a right turn. Cost me $1200 to get it fixed. Was evacuating from the Sonoma County fires, and clipped a curb in a narrow access road. Got great service from "Jay and Bill's Tire" in Petaluma.

- The axles most TTs come with are barely adequate under ideal conditions.
Upgrading axles has made it onto my to do list on every TT I have owned.
My present TT came with 5200# axles. It now rolls on 7000# axles. I really wanted 8000#, but there were some clearance issues I could not resolve.

Agreed. I plan to go back to the "scene" to try to see how the damage was done. I am pretty sure the front tire/wheel/axle slipped over the curb. My only confusion is about what was going on with the read tire and axle.
It is a little weird for me. I am not in favor of breaking my stuff and paying to get it fixed, but to be honest, each time I've repaired my trailer I feel like I better understand its construction. The tire and wheel were damaged, and had to be replaced.- I think the really sad thing is the axle bent especially at such a slow speed. As said good thing that you caught it before having to add the cost of a new tire to the repair bill.

I was going slow - perhaps 5mph. I felt a jolt. At the time, there was no urgency, just lots of confusion and I got distracted. We were navigating around the perimeter of a fairgrounds, and I was more concerned about all the other people and not getting down a street that I could not turn around on.Old-Biscuit wrote:

I looked at it once we were settled. It did not look like the photo. Once the evacuation orders were lifted, we left and another driver pulled up next to me and said, "your wheel is coming off". It wasn't, but I pulled over within a 1/4 mile and saw the damage. The tire place I found was only another 1/2 mile. Turns out it was highly recommended.- Bent axle OR bent spindle?
