One personal preference for us was having lots of outside awning covered space.
In a long camper a rear slide would be fine, but in a shorter one, we prefer to have big open space covering a large awning mat. Our "Front Porch" so to speak.
It all depends on how you want to use your RV and your personal preferences, but I would suggest you grab a camping chair or two and go sit next to a few RVs with a door slide extended. It might suit you well, it might not...but then you'd know ;)
