Receiver may need some work but the Mercedes has many good characteristics of a great tow vehicle. Pretty short rear overhang, stiff lower profile tires, wide stance. I can see why the fellow in the videos above enjoyed towing with his Mercedes.
Also, there is no comparison between a Mercedes and any American truck. As nice as they are they will likely become a work truck at some point in their lives. not throwing down on them (I'm getting a truck for my next vehicle) but there is a reason the OP is considering a true luxury vehicle.
Can-Am RV up in Canada specializes in setting up these kind of rigs and they are an Airstream dealership. They are friendly and will talk to you about your rig even if they don't earn your business.
Good luck OP.
Thanks!

Yes it's unfortunate but the OP is rather far to go to Canam - who have a lot of experience with these. There are a couple of articles, I was looking but I could not find the one I wanted as it is specific to the strength of the hitches but
there is this one which has some background. There were problems with some of the earlier models, Andy says they fixed this around 2011, but I cannot find the one where he was specifically talking about the GL320.
