I guess it's different in BC as here in Ontario it would be considered discourteous to hog for yourself any water tap that's not on-site. I suppose one could temporarily connect to a tap across the road or just down a bit but if another camper comes along wanting water it would be expected courtesy to disconnect to allow them to fill their container, etc. Personally I wouldn't connect but instead fill my potable water containers where the tap is located, for later transfer to the trailer's fresh water tank.
