Best performing compressor fridge?

Holas All:

By this juncture with compressor fridges being used for years in adverse conditions by off-roading pop-up truck camper maniacs, what brand(s) have stood the test of time (and efficiency) ?

We are looking to replace our Norcold 3.2 absorption unit with a 3.x or 4.x compressor, in the Outfitter Caribou 8.

Cheers,
Silver-

  • Most of our camping with our compressor fridge/freezer has been fairly tame. We leave the rough stuff to our legs and mountain bikes.

There have been many times however when accessing boondocks camping spots when you subject your TC to rough and dirty conditions. Our truck and TC are just too long and heavy for true off road travel.

Last 2 years we have dry camped 260 nights. 3 of those with electric hookups, and maybe 2+ hours of genny time. Highest temp= 95F, (Arizona),lowest 5F.(BC)

Check out my profile and trips on our blog and if you have any ?, feel free.

  • Thanks, Scott.

Anyone out there with overland / long-term off-roading experience with compressor fridges in highly variable temperature environments?

  • From the reading I've done here, they all hold up well. Some are more efficient than others meaning they will use less power overall. They come at a bit of a price premium though.
You can do a search and find endless hours of reading on the subject of residential fridges.
