It is time to replace our Travel Trailer tires. GoodYear tires came with the TT but we had one blow out on us coming home from our last trip. Any advice on which brand is best for replacement?
Current tires are GoodYear Marathon Radial ST205/75R15
I went with Maxxis upgraded to load range D. Maxxis makes a ST205/75R15 in Load Range C & D. The Load Range D will require investigating if your current wheels can support the max 65PSI. I did this to get more carrying capacity and better margins when fully loaded. 330# increase per tire adds up quickly x4.
Part Number Size ply capacity max psi
TL15701000 205/75R15 6 1,820 50
TL15703000 205/75R15 8 2,150 65
Any yes, you will get lots of opinions........ Doing a search when I was doing my investigation netted lots and lots of opinions. The one thing that stuck out for me was no one was saying NOT to use Maxxis. Instead there were points made to consider other brands because, in their opinion, were as good.
I think other brands have caught on to the fact tire failures were getting seriously discussed and publicized on forums and have improved quality in the past couple of years. Just Google "Maxxis tire failures" and then Carlisle, Goodyear, etc and draw your own conclusions.
When you google the above mentioned tires be mindful of those who used them 20 years ago and haven't figure out the improvments made to to these products......
