I recently completed an 8,000 towing miles trip accross the U.S. Installed the new Carlisle Radial Trail RH in Orlando,FL. The tires then traveled all the way up the East Coast to Maine-and then back out to Utah. Couple of key points-always checked inflation AND NEVER exceeded 60mph. The tires performed flawlessly. As a matter of fact, I never had to add air. So-that's first hand experience.
I also made observations that 75% of people towing exceed the recommended speed for ST tires. This is what I saw on the highways during my trip.
Well you have never heard me criticize Carlisle tires even once and have even defended them ( does that make me a Carlisle cheerleader to)… I have been towing trailers all my life, have never had a blow out on a ST tire and couldn’t begin to count the miles…
That doesn’t mean that I believe there is no problem with the ST tire… I still believe they fail far too often and while I do believe many of them are operator related it doesn’t explain the problem away…
IMHO their problem begins with low regulation that in turn becomes low quality as well… then the RV trailer industry short changing weights and the addition of the operator abuse and the problem is magnified many times…
And still I believe with everything I know and have read the Maxxis is the best ST tire available… can that change sure it can, I just haven’t seen anything that would change my opinion yet…
We agree many are caused by operator error which includes excessive speed.
