Best towing mirrors

I am awaiting delivery of a 2017 F-150. I opted for the BLIS system which prevented me from getting the Ford extendable towing mirrors. I am going to need a good set of add-on towing mirrors. Since the BLIS sensors are in the mirrors, I want one that won't block those sensors and disable the BLIS system.

Who makes the best add-on towing mirrors?

Let the fireworks begin.

I'm a little confused. I have a 2016 F150, ordered with the towing mirrors, and it has BLIS. I don't understand what the conflict might be with having both? Perhaps it just wasn't a part of the package when you got your vehicle, and is only an add-on?

You're right. I went back to the Ford website, and if I had ordered the Lariat level I could have gotten both trailer tow mirrors and BLIS. The XLT that I ordered was not available with both. It was a minimum of $7,000 difference.

  • Considering making any modifications at all to your existing mirrors will be detrimental to your vehicle, you need to think of an alternative mirror solution.

My dad (1963) bought a set of these and used them for years. When he died, I got them and used them for years also. I used them until about 2005 when I purchased my first dualy truck that came with towing mirrors, so I ended giving them to someone else. As far as I know, they are still being used.

The simply attach under the front fender and then the L clip hooks under the hood of your vehicle. The turnbuckles let you tighten them down, then you adjust the angle of your mirror. When not towing, you just take them off. Get 2 so you can put them on each side of your tow vehicle.

They may look a little funky, but they do work well and have been time-tested and proven since time began. And amazing, this design has never changed. They are almost identical to the set my Dad had in 1963.

Just noticed, at the top of that page, there is also a door mounted mirror, similar to this one. Check it out too. It might work better for your needs, depending upon the design of your truck.
  • I would buy and install factory mirrors. Ford happens to make the best of the big three, imo, so you're in luck.

Edit - I just re-read your post and maybe my solution won't work. If you're restricted to strap on mirrors you're going to get an inferior result.
