Best trailer to tow behind F150

Hello everyone; Sold my Class A bought a boat now looking for a travel trailer. I have a Ford F150 with a super cab and an ecoboost engine. What would be a great trailer with slides to pull behind it. How much weight can this Ford pull? Never pulled anything except the boat (4500lbs). Any suggestions will be helpful.

  • Congrats on the Eco! All Ecoboost F150s are not created equal. The limiting factor is likely to be your payload. This number can be found on the yellow sticker in your driver's door jamb. From that, you'll need to subtract passengers and cargo to see what you have left for tongue weight.
  • There is lots of missing information. You'll need to know towing capacities, tongue weight, GCVW, cargo capacity of your truck among other things. Those specs can vary depending on gearing, engine, etc. Your owners manual, your original window sticker, and the tire load specification label in your door should be able to help you determine those things. From there you can determine what weight you can realistically tow. What we call half ton series trucks cannot generally tow up to their rated capacity when it comes to travel trailers. In other words, if the tow rating is 10k#, more likely a travel trailer will max out the tongue limit and payload several thousand #s below the max rated tow capacity.

That said, there are lots of great trailers that can be towed by that truck. It's going to all boil down to personal opinion. What I consider the "best" trailer may not even come close to what you want. You'll have to get to some dealers and just start browsing as you figure out what to get.

    Have fun!

Start by looking in the manual in the glove box...
Check for your specific model's towing rating and especially the PAYLOAD rating.
  • What are you planning to do with the boat?
I have a big jon boat rigged up with 25hp long shaft. I leave it at home and cartop a canoe while camping/fishing/ecotouring.
