Leaving it inside the door seems like a fine solution if you're going straight to your destination, since you'll be plugging in when you get there anyway as one of the first steps of setting up. If you'll make stops and/or have a need to go inside the trailer while traveling, I can see how that being in the way could be a pain. I'd just throw it on the floor at the foot of the bed if I didn't like it in the doorway. Mine just stays in the pass thru.
They make a handle with a strap you can wrap around the cord for easier moving of the cable, if you want to be able to toss it where ever is convenient without worrying about it unraveling.
