better sofa bed for Jayco 338 RETS

Howdy,
Over the years we have had 2 Jayco 338RETS TT. This last one we opted for the standard fridge and included is the pantry. That said. the sofa bed is an item my wife lays on sit on for hours on end doing her crafts and watching TV. This unit in our newest TT 2018 is horrible for sitting on do to the mechanical stuff to make it into a bed.

Has any one found a better one without the sofa bed as we never have anyone share our space. This unit is significantly shorter than a regular trailer unit.

Any thoughts for a more comfortable unit. She could sit in one of the lazy boys but that doesn't satisfy her craft needed space.

TIA

  • I would suggest widening your search to include furniture stores in addition to RV options.
  • The unit in our Jayco is significantly SHORTER than a regular sofa bed.
  • On our previous TT (Keystone Outback), we removed the original 2 rocker chairs and put the small couch on the opposite slide out. We also removed the kitchen table and 4 chairs.

    Original configuration:

We then replaced all that with a true household 3 seater recliner couch and used folding small portable tables when we needed table space.

Here's what it looked like for several years after we got the couch:

I also attached rollers under the couch so we could swing it around and face the rear window and television. We used it this when almost all the time. The short couch had a blow-up hide-a-bed. So when our adult son and and grandson did camp with us, we just pushed the couch back into the slide, blow up the mattress from the other couch, and put it on the floor in front of the television.

The secret was to find a couch that fit through the door. We looked for a long time and I did multiple measurements. The backs remove from the one we got.

That couch was so comfortable, we ended get a second one a year later for inside the house, and got the matching recliner and tossed out the old one in the house.

When we traded the TT for our current 5er, we let the couch go with the camper. I kind of regret that decision now. I wish we had it in the house now for a 2nd couch. It was that comfortable. We got it at Value City Furniture near Indianapolis, Indiana.
