My new 150 pulls as well or better than my old 250 did and gives a lot better gas milage. I am currently pulling somewhat over 11,000lbs with it regularly now. It definately needs the load distributing hitch more than a 250 but is great other than that and you should probably have one anyway unless you are pulling a 5th wheel. Then you might should consider the max payload package. The 3.5 Ecoboost is stronger than the 6.2 below 5,000 rpm and gives much better fuel economy, especially empty as you plan to be most of the time. You are fortunate to have so many good choices. I do wish that I could have gotten the air suspension on my Ford. I do like Fords and the 6.2 seems to be strong and reliable but it is old technology and does not give great fuel economy, it is already a very low production engine and I expect it to go away altogether very soon.
Seems to be lots of bs, "OPINIONS" and down right lies in this post...
I highly doubt ANYONE in their right mind would be towing "11K lbs" regularly with a F150 Eco.. You would be well over your cargo rating by doing so..
Even if you have the max tow and max payload packages with anything other than a plain reg cab 4x2 the MAX cargo a 150 has tops out around 2,200 lbs..
Add in 4x4 and crew cab and your now around 1,800 lbs payload, 11K lbs at 10% tongue weight is 1100 lbs and at 15% tongue weight is 1,650 lbs..
Basically all you can take is the driver, full tank of gas and one potato chip..
Sorry but as far as TOWING ECONOMY, your "eco" is NO BETTER than a 6.2.. Bet you are really getting 8 or so with your supposed 11K load and I think that is really stretching the truth...
It is true that UNLOADED the "eco" "can" get better mileage, but that is driving with a egg between the go pedal and your foot.. Stomp on it and the mileage drops into the abyss.
Should have bought a F250, then you would not be wishing you had "bags" or other suspension mods.. To me the squishy suspension of a 1/2 ton does not make for a good tow, especially if you are towing a RV..
Then take a hard look at the cost.. F150 Max tow and max payload, plus "eco" in XLT will easily have a MSRP of around $60K and have a max payload of 1800 lbs if you are lucky, without max tow and max payload packages actually have only 1600 lbs for cargo...
You can get a F250 4x4 crew XLT with 6.2, payload of 2900 lbs with a MSRP at about $50K!
My 2013 F250 4x2 super cab short bed gets 15-15.2 empty AND cruising at 70 mph.. Towing 7K and at 70 mph has no problem getting 9.8-10.5 and that is even with some long 5%-8% grades.. Paid $42K out the door and I have a payload of 3415 lbs!
The 6.2 only needs 87 gas and I have not as of yet found myself wishing I had more power. The 6.2 just keeps giving more..
Really HAVE to do some research to figure out the true numbers..
