I'm using 5/8" plywood cut in 4 pieces to completely cover the truck bed. Then a truck bed mat over that. Been working OK so far.
After talking to Bigfoot about the Fastgun clearance issue they said it is OK to use heavy duty machinery eye bolts to move the camper attachment points farther out. Also Torklift suggested drilling another hole in their extensions to move them out an inch. My last trip I used both. Next time maybe just one or the other and see if it works OK.
