black dump valve

the aluminum rod with 1/4 inch NC thread has broken on my 25p arctic fox trailer.(black dump valve)where do i buy a replacement?do they make a stainless steel one that's not so flimsy?temporarily using part of a turnbuckle using the right hand 1/4 inch female thread.

thanks Lary
  • You can buy those at the camping stores, but they are outrageous for what you're buying. Those threaded rods are the exact same rods in rifle cleaning kits. Go down to Wally World and buy the cheapest rifle cleaning kit they have. It will have three or four of those rods in it. You'll have spares for the next accident.

I know it doesn't help now, but in the future when you get it fixed, be more gentle when pulling the handle. I know mine will be very difficult when I initially pull and then it will give way and will come to the stop faster than I can stop pulling. This is what breaks them.

I now have learned to pull hard enough to only barely move the handle outwards. I had to replace both of mine on my last coach and learned this lesson the hard way.

As other have mentioned, any rv store will have what you need even if you have to replace the entire gate as I did.

    Good luck

I wish they would mount the valve so the handle was pointing outward. It is a pain when dumping at a station to reach under to pull it, but really troublesome when setup and need to open it as the slide out is in the way.
