I researched both crate and a used motor for my 6.0 and determined the cost would be about the same. Plus, the repairs included bullet-proofing my 6.0 to eliminate problems that could exist in an unknown used motor and even the crate motor.
Challenge is with mine, high mileage.. Is this the start of a trend? What's going to wear out or break next? I'm thinking that it possibly could become a money pit with 374,000 K on it. It's still mostly all original. Stuff will start wearing out.
15 grand for a crate motor is about what the truck is worth in good running condition.
