I guess I am surprised the computer did not put you in a limp mode and cause you to immediately stop.
Got to the first snowshed and did my usual gauge check. Crud! Engine temp up in the red. Got through the shed and pulled over off the road and shut it off. Steam poured out from the back of the hood. Got it cooled down, full tank of water in the TT, got it filled up again but water pouring off the back of the engine.
I caught it before it got really hot. Needle was just into the red and climbing. Hadn't gone in to limp mode yet. There was no noise or steam until I shut it off. It did go into limp mode after I shut it off and restarted though.
I'm always watching my gauges.
It's quite possible the head gasket went first and put compression into the cooling system then popped the weakest link, the hose. But also possible the hose blew, lost coolant first then the head gasket. I'll never know.
