Grit Dog, yes you can call me Bob! :B
I get called a lot of things, especially by my closest friends!!!
Yes I do want a decent truck and one that will pull through the mountains. I know I'll have to pay more, but that's the price when you want a few things, such as a diesel.
Trailer in sig is not the one I was towing on this trip.
Half ton will definitely not cut it, especially a gasser. Too small and underpowered for the task. 32 foot TT with all our stuff is likely 9000 pounds or more. Plus my big rack and tool boxes. I like the stability of the 3500 dually. I drive in Southern Alberta a lot and they have some seriously wicked winds. I got broadsided by wind so hard once towing the TT that it tore the awning right off and scattered it on the highway. Truck and trailer barely flinched. That's peace of mind towing.
Sure, I could get by with a SRW, but it would be a one ton. I carry lots of heavy construction materials too. But I don't want to buy new again. Been looking at the 2011 to 2015 used trucks on Kijiji. The price tags are a little high IMO. Rig trucks are gone now. It's been too long since the crunch here started.
Your suggestion of waiting is a good one, but unfortunately I need a truck for work and I need it real soon!
Going to start looking around more seriously now and figure out what I'm going to do.
