Wood is a lot cheaper, and easier to get sizes that fit under the levelers and into storage on the TT or TV. A bit heavier than plastic.
I've found a noticeable difference in stability between two inches of levelers and six inches of wood under the levelers. Six inches of plastic levelers under four points on the trailer cost over $100.
I do occasionally use the large tire sized plastic pads under the wood blocks to try to minimize sinking into wet ground. Can't avoid sinking in some locations, but it helps.
