There is a bunch of dispersed camping sites SW of Sedona - Village of OAK CREEK -Cottonwood - Camp Verde areas. Check with the different Natl Forest areas there for more details...
Back in the day we used to roam all over these areas in groups of Jeeps and towed trailers... Some places have a very low fees but most were free back then... No rest rooms needed as long as you had a shovel along with you...
Even the fire trails NE of SEDONA up to I40 are also many many dispersed camping areas...
That is where you would find me and my trusty ole Jeep back in the day...
We would hit Apache Junction and head up into the trails on that side, work our way up North of Roosevelt Lake on into Flagstaff areas then down through the two or three Nation Forest areas working our way over fire roads to Prescott finally picking up I17 and then back into the Scottsdale/Tempe/Mesa area back home again... This was the best way to play a long weekend...
Nothing better waking up in the morning near the Red Rock Canyons and watching the Sun come up... Breath taking for sure...
