Booth dinette

Yesterday when we bought our 2015 Heritage Glen 302FK travel trailer, we asked that the table and chairs be changed to a booth dinette. We were told it would cost us $500 plus labor. I was surprised we would have to pay for that. Shouldn't the RV dealership absorb the cost?

I am torn in half as to whether to leave the table and chairs alone or exchange it for a booth dinette which will provide us more storage and extra sleeping accommodations.

Thoughts?
  • Don't know that I would consider the booth a "downgrade", more like a standard item. The table and chairs would likely be the "upgrade". Since the trailer is already built with the standard dinette, it's not just a matter of pulling the table and benches out. There is likely a good bit of rework on the wood area + the cost of the table and chairs. If you were ordering it as a custom unit, the cost might be less since you wouldn't have the tearing out and replacing job to do. If you feel that strongly about the table and chairs, I would suggest ordering one that way or finding a dealer with one on the lot. Our Rocky was shown in the pictures with the larger size, standard design dinette and that was perfectly fine with us. Our HTT had the regular size standard and it served us well. Later I discovered that the table and chairs was an option. But it was not included in what we bought and not worth the effort and $$$ to even ask to have it changed.

Ummm.... No.... If I was the dealer.. ;)

Unless the dealer agreed for that before the deal was made, I'd say the dealer has no obligation to do that for you.. And $500 sounds about right to me.. :)

    Good luck!

We had not bought the trailer at that time and asked that the table/chairs be changed to a booth dinette. We were told it would cost $500 plus labor. Isn't a booth dinette like a downgrade, no?

Sure, it's a "downgrade" in the grand scheme of things.. But, since the unit does not have it, it's a pretty labor intensive change to be made after the fact and $500 is not too bad of a deal...

I tore my dinette OUT of my trailer and can see where it would be a PITA to put one in... :)

    Here was my original dinette

Here it is when I ripped it out.. :)

Where is what I did with the parts. :)

This took me about 8 hours of time to do, and I re-used all the material I already had, so the dealer is gonna have to come up with the booth parts too... ;)

Anyway.. If the dealer is desperate for the sale, he'll do it... If not, well.. There you go go.. :)

  • If you placed the order from the factory, then it would have been delivered as ordered. But if the unit is already on the lot, you would have to pay for any remodeling.

If you buy a trailer off the lot, with table and chairs you paid for them

If you ordered a TT with the dinette it may have cost less than what you bought on the lot.

If you want to trade your table and chairs for a dinette, then to change it would be considered a renovation to what is already there and would cost you the money.

Dealers are not in business to do things for nothing. If you had wanted a dinette then you should have only considered TT with one.

Sorry but the dealer is correct this time.

  • If the swap was part of the deal to buy the trailer then the dealer should live up to the deal. If after you negotiated a price and deliverables, you now want the swap, then the dealer has a right to ask for just compensation.
  • see how you like the table and chairs- then decided if you need the booth dinette. funny we have the booth and would prefer the table and chairs. LOL
  • You, in essence are asking the dealership to provide an expensive customization at no charge. IMHO that is too much to ask.

I would leave the table and chairs as this seems to be the trend and an "upgrade" in travel trailers. I have a dinette and would be happy to have table and chairs.

Custom items may also affect future value.
