well I heard back from Toyota. they claim that the plug is under the left kick panel and that the drawing on page 178 shows that. that drawing is totally unclear. two Toyota mechanics and my mechanic tore into that area and did NOT find the socket. the photos of Etrailer certainly were of the dash, not the kick panel.
re-sent a post to Toyota asking clarification but that is unlikely to prove satisfactory.
