Brake controller

Ok, I read the posts about the "CURT" brake controller as that is the one I purchased I have yet to install so I can take back. If CURT is no good, then what is the best controller.. Towing a Work &Play 27UL.....?
  • BrakeSmart....Gone! Out of business! Reason, unknown, but not because of poor quality.
    MaxBrake ....works the same.
I had the BrakeSmart, really a great controler, but when it quit working I was out of luck.
I have had the Max Brake for 3 years now, works great.no complaints.
I have never had any other brand so...no comment on them.
  • Well most have answered my question. The CURT is gone.. Now the big question is what are the thoughts on WD hitch and sway controllers?
  • B&W is the best non airbag hitch and Max Brake is the best brake controller. Only thing close is the factory 2012 or newer brake controllers.

    Is that better?

Unless you have used a Brakesmart you have no reason to state so and so is any better than the next. I have ran different prodigys and so on and there is no comparison, the brakesmart is the BEST of all self installed brake controllers.
Now when it comes to brake controllers installed at the factory I have no idea since I have not used one but from what I have read they seem to be a very good product.

Agree but I think brakesmart is now called maxbrake.
For years we read 'prodigy this prodigy that' as the be all end all ,I bit- used one and its good ,but I now have a maxbrake and no I mean NO comparison.Same with hitches -B&W is the be all end all............NOT.
Very good ,maybe the best of unsuspended hitches, but trailer saver or any air hitch is worlds better, more costly by far,but if I add up all the hitches I have used and just would have bought a trailer saver first the cost would of been a wash.
Grasshoppers ,learn from us dont make the same mistakes.

Didn't know Curt made brake controllers (they're probably made by someone else) but if it's time-based, take it back. You want at least a proportional type controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy series or their Primus IQ, both good values but probably not the "best" on the market as you start to get into more $$ with more sophisticated controllers like the Brake Smart, etc.
