Brake controllers factory vs aftermarket

Looking at getting a new truck, have seen a lot of brake controller discussions but never anything concerning whether aftermarket brands or units are any better or worse than the factory units from the big three.
Would appreciate any insights or experiences one vs the other.

  • I hate my 12 Ram TBC. I love my P3. I also loved my 2010 F150 TBC. I think the newer Rams are better.
  • I've only had two after-market units and two integrated units (one GM, one Ford). Both of the integrated units were heads and shoulders above the after-market units. Being integrated with the truck's computer(s) means they are getting all kinds of information that the add-on units do not get.

  • No complaints on my Chevy's system. I like the dashboard notifications...operative, not connected (loose) etc. as well as coordination on sway with Tahoe's brakes.
  • I like the IBC in my Ram better than any aftermarket unit I've ever used although some have reported issues of not getting enough braking performance. My fifth wheel brakes plenty hard with a modest gain setting as long as I run it in heavy EOH, though.
